CHAPTER III: THE END OF THE BEGINNING

After another hour or so of excruciating waiting, Ryan finally appeared by Ron's side and I went over and hugged him. Joey followed me and did the same. Ryan was obviously confused, exhausted and bewildered...and Joey whispered in my ear...
"Let's just get him home and into bed. US too, honey." Sir Helpsalot to the rescue as always and once more I know why I love him so much.

"Works for me," and he smiled and after putting an arm around Ryan's shoulder sorta propelled him to the front door and down the steps and out to the car. I threw him the keys as I didn't feel like driving and I also wanted to be able to comfort Ryan if he needed it. He didn't, or at least didn't seem to. He just sat, sorta dazed. It was clear he didn't want to talk and that was very understandable but once in a while I would hear him mumble under his breath..."I don't get it. I just don't get it. Why?"

My thoughts exactly.

We got home after stopping at the store and getting Ryan some stuff he would need since his clothes and toiletries etc were all at his place and that was off limits. He kinda slow-walked through it all and was not very involved to say the least...so I did my best to anticipate what his needs would be. I figured get the basics and we could always do more shopping later on.

When we got home I offered to make him something to eat and drink but he declined and that too was understandable. He seemed genuinely appreciative but just flat out overwhelmed by all that had happened tonight. Again, it was logical all things considered. Ryan has stayed with us before so I told him to just go up to bed and try to get some sleep which he did and we followed with the stuff we had bought and put it all away.

I wondered if I would be able to sleep, but after getting undressed and falling into that oh so welcome bed...well, that is about all I remember until late morning. So grateful for exhaustion.

I awoke and quickly realized I was in bed alone. Hmmm. Made my way to the bathroom and could tell Joey had already been here. After a refresh, I made my way downstairs and got to the kitchen where Joey was busy making breakfast.

OK, let me hasten to add...this is NOT one of his strong suits...cooking, but he outdid himself this morning and I told him so which got me a big smooch and I may keep that up. LOL. Ryan came in right after I did and looked really sheepish...I hugged him and told him to get some coffee and sit. He did.

Pretty quick, Joey brought over the eggs, sausage, hash browns buttered toast, and juice. I asked if he wanted help but he said no and I gathered this was showing he could do something like making breakfast and I just silently laughed.

Breakfast was a quiet affair.
